[Maypole] problems getting started

I'm trying to get started playing with Maypole by installing BeerDB.  I looked around a bit to but I didn't actually find any installation instructions, so forgive if I'm asking a dumb question.

Currently BeerDB is dying on line 8:
 BeerDB->setup("dbi:mysql:beerdb");

with the error (referring to setup_database):
  This is an abstract method at /usr/share/perl/5.8.3/Maypole/Model/Base.pm line 108.

However when I go and look at the code in Maypole.pm, it looks like a Maypole::Model::CDBI, with its implementation of setup_database, should be being instaniated.

Am I missing a key step?
